From the Director Welcome to the 28th season of Bellevue
Chamber Chorus! As our season-long theme suggests, this year we look
forward to bringing you “a world of song” in three exciting and diverse
programs. Our music will explore the theme from a variety of
perspectives: historically (from the middle ages to the present),
stylistically (from chant to folk songs, from classics to contemporary
works), geographically (around the world in music), and even
thematically (songs about our world). Join us on the journey at several
excellent venues around the region. The world is full of beautiful,
amazing, and inspiring song…come experience it with us this year! 2011-2012 Subscription SeriesA World of Song
Echoes of Christmas Saturday, December 10, 2011 - 7:30 pm -
Bothell United Methodist Church
The glorious sounds of Christmas echo across the centuries in this program of holiday
masterworks. You’ll hear
magnificent music from the Renaissance (Gabrieli’s
Hodie Christus natus est for
double chorus) and Baroque (Pachelbel’s
Magnificat in D, and Christmas chorales of J.S. Bach), splendid gems
from 19th and 20th century masters Mendelssohn,
Holst, and Poulenc, and marvelous contemporary pieces by Morten Lauridsen, Kevin Siegfried, Will Todd, and more.
Celebrate the season with music for the ages!
Choral Journeys
Back by popular
demand, our musical excursion through the world of song takes you to
Japan, China, India, Spain, Estonia, Scandinavia, Argentina, Brazil,
and, of course, the USA! En
route, you’ll savor an exotic potpourri of sacred and secular music from
classical to folk by such marvelous composers as Javier Busto, Ola
Gjeilo, Carlos Guastavino, Veljo Tormis, and many more.
Plus, hear the regional
premiere of a new, jointly-commissioned work by American
composer/conductor André Thomas!
Earth Songs
Celebrate nature and the environment in this unique program honoring Mother Earth. Featuring the inspiring Missa Gaia: Mass for the Earth by Libby Larsen, the concerts also include stirring music by Stephen Chatman (Unseen Buds), Eric Whitacre (Cloudburst), Alberto Grau (The Earth is Tired), and Robert Kyr (excerpts from On the Nature of Creation), among others. Join us for an exciting season finale as we “Go Green” in song!
